| When Uher launched a tape recorder without a pressure roller, many people were convinced that it would never work.
And it works. The trick is to wrap the tape almost completely around the capstan shaft.
For this purpose, there is a fourth motor which, when the start button is pressed, guides the tape around the shaft.
In conjunction with highly precise tape tension control, synchronization is also at a high level.
I think the design of the device is great, especially since it is almost entirely black. The SG 631 also features a number of well-designed functions (some of which have been adopted from Royal de Luxe) that make working with this device more enjoyable. E.g. - Fine adjustment of tape speed (at 19 cm/s) and control via stroboscopic discs (50/60 Hz) - Control of a slide projector via built-in electronics and slide head - Easy replacement of the head carrier (2 to 4 tracks) - Adjustment screw for the playback head accessible from above (so that “external tapes” can also be played back optimally) - Built-in limiter (switchable, with LEDs for peak indication). |
