The “Royal de luxe” was produced in different versions for many years.
Originally offered only as “Royal de luxe” and “Royal de luxe C” (without built-in power amplifiers and speakers), the “SG 560” and “SG 561” models were added as follow-ups in later years.
However, all of these devices are based on the same, rather complex but nevertheless reliable, mechanism. No significant changes have been made to the electronic components either.
Four tape speeds, a built-in mixing console, a built-in slide projector (and head), and a wide range of special effects (reverb, echo, duo and multiplay) make this machine particularly interesting for the discerning tape enthusiast.
There are also a number of well-thought-out “little things” that make working with this device a pleasure.
For example, the head carrier can be easily replaced (2 to 4 tracks) and the adjustment screw for the playback head is accessible from above (so that even “foreign bands” can be played back optimally).
Unfortunately, spare parts are becoming increasingly difficult (and expensive) to find. Brake pads are particularly hard to come by (mine are “carved” from a single piece of raw rubber). The (rubber) intermediate roller for speed changeover is also often deformed, which leads to audible, rapid speed fluctuations. This deformation is usually caused by “improper” shutdown of the device, as not only should the start/stop switch be turned, but the speed switch must also be set to the “zero” position, otherwise this intermediate roller will always remain in contact with the motor shaft. |
