The better is the enemy of the good

As the title suggests, I consider the B77 (as opposed to the A77) to be the better tape recorder.
In 1977, Revox introduced the long-awaited replacement for the A77: the B77. At least for me, this is real progress. From the beginning, they were available in many different versions. Among other things, with Dolby, with wooden housings, with built-in baskets, different track positions, high, normal, and low speed. Since almost all of these details could be combined with each other, there were over 50 different versions in total. In addition to many “invisible” further developments “under the hood,” some important changes are also visible on the outside: Finally, truly readable level meters (each with LED for peak value display) Logic control of all drive functions using tip keys Unfortunately, there are also a few “predetermined breaking points” that always cause joy: The counter belts are defective in many used devices. The record switches sometimes suffer from contact problems. The color of the casing (Nextel) tends to fade over the years (stick). Fortunately, the supply of spare parts via Revoxservice is (still) excellent. Various companies also offer repainting of the housings. |
