A tape recorder with a “history”

Normally, you rarely find out anything about the history of a tape recorder, because these machines have usually passed through many hands before they come to me.
This one is different. This D36 was purchased by Adriaan Engels to make organ recordings in churches.
Adriaan Engels was a professor at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag and organist at the Grote of St. Jakob Kerk in Den Haag.
He also left behind a fairly extensive body of work as a composer.

It must have taken quite some effort back then to haul this device, which weighed almost 20 kg, plus tapes and microphones, into a church and set it up. An process that is hard to imagine in the age of digital recording devices that weigh only a few hundred grams. |
